POCUS (Point-of-Care Ultrasound) is the use of ultrasound at the bedside to support clinical assessment, diagnosis, decision-making and procedures. POCUS Wales provides practical, clinically focused ultrasound education designed to help healthcare professionals develop these skills.
Our courses are suitable for healthcare professionals who want to develop their point-of-care ultrasound skills. Depending on the course, this may include doctors, trainees, advanced clinical practitioners, emergency and acute care clinicians, anaesthetists, intensivists and other healthcare professionals.
It depends on the course. We offer training suitable for clinicians who are new to POCUS, as well as programmes for those with existing ultrasound experience. Each course page clearly outlines the recommended level of experience.
Yes. Practical, hands-on learning is a key part of our courses. Delegates have opportunities to practise ultrasound scanning and techniques using ultrasound equipment, with guidance from experienced faculty.

Yes. Delegates who complete the relevant course requirements will receive a POCUS Wales certificate of attendance or completion, as applicable to the programme.
Our courses can provide useful evidence of structured continuing professional development and learning. Delegates should retain their course certificate and relevant documentation for their portfolio, appraisal or professional development records. Individual professional or regulatory requirements should be checked with the relevant organisation.
Course attendance is an important part of POCUS education, but a single course does not by itself establish independent clinical competence. Competence requires appropriate supervised practice, ongoing scanning experience, assessment and adherence to local governance and professional requirements.
Yes. We can discuss bespoke POCUS education and training for healthcare teams and organisations. Training can be tailored to the clinical environment, learning objectives and experience of the participants.
